Influence of Different Endodontic Irrigants on Bond Strength of BioRoot Root Canal Sealer

Objectives: To investigate bond strength of BioRoot sealer following irrigation with six different irrigations.
Methods: Roots of 60 human premolars with mature apices were radiographed from two directions to exclude those teeth with lateral extensions. Following decoronation the roots with a resulting canal length of 8 mm canals were instrumented with BioRaCe NiTi rotary instruments to BR 7 (.02/#60) using distilled water. Roots were randomly assigned to 6 experimental groups according to the irrigation used for final rinse (5 ml) of the root canal: (1) citric acid 40%, (2) distilled water (control) (3) EDTA 15%, (4) ethanol 70%, (5) NaOCl 2.5% (6) QMix. After irrigation canals were dried with paper points and root canals were filled with BioRoot Sealer followed by the insertion of adjusted (.02/#60) and silica-coated (CoJet) stainless steel spreaders. After 4 weeks to allow the sealer to set the specimens were investigated for bond strength using a pullout test (Zwick universal testing machine) according to Ebert et al. (2011). Statistical analysis was computed with SPSS 22.0 using ANOVA and Scheffé post-hoc tests.
Results: Bond strength values (medians [MPa]) were: (1) 2.11, (2) 2.85, (3) 1.86, (4) 2.54, (5) 2.71, (6) 1.85. No significant differences were observed between the groups (ANOVA: p<0.478).
Conclusions: Endodontic irrigations only slightly affected bond strength of BioRoot Sealer.
