SpeedCEM Plus in Comparison With Other Self-adhesive Luting Materials

Objectives: We here compared the radiopacity of different self-adhesive luting materials with the new self-adhesive cement SpeedCEM Plus. In addition, the shear bond strength with zirconia was analysed and compared.

Comparison of the radiopacity of SpeedCEM Plus (SCP), G-Cem Link Ace (GCL), Maxcem Elite (MCE), PermaCem 2.0 (PEC), Smart Cem 2 (SMC), RelyX Unicem 2 Automix (RXU) and Panavia SA Cement Plus (PCP). Determination ofthe shear bond strength on zirconia specimens including thermocycling.
Methods: Radiopacity was compared according to ISO-4049:2009. Shear bond strength was measured on zirconia at the self and dual-cure mode. Polymerized composite cylinders (Tetric EvoCeram) were used for all products to adhere at the zirconia specimens. Thermocycling tests were performed both in the self and dual-cure mode between 5°C to 55°C and 10’000 cycles (dwell time 30 sec).
Statistical analysis were done using a general linear mode (ANOVA) and Tukey’s range test to determine statistical differences (p<0.05), if applicable.
Results: The radiopacity of SCP showed a significant higher result when compared to the other products. The shear bond strength of SCP showed a very stable result after thermocycling, in contrast to other products.
Conclusions: The radiopacity of SCP showed to besignificantly higher compared to all other luting materials. Theshear bond strength of only a few products like SCP, PEC and RXU did not decline after thermocycling.
