Decrowding efficiency Between Tubular Coaxial NiTi and Super Elastic NiTi Arch Wires in Mandibular Crowding – A Randomized Control Trial

Objectives: To assess the decrowding efficiency between 0.016 " tubular coaxial NiTi and 0.016" super elastic NiTi in mandibular anterior crowding.
Methods: The sample consists of two groups with 10 patients in each. Participants with Little's irregularity index value of 4 and above were chosen for the study. Pre treatment CAD -CAM was taken for all the participants and they were straped up with 0.22 MBT slot prescription brackets. Wires were placed in the lower arch and ligated using elastomeric ligatures or steel ligatures. The patient were reviewed after first and second month and CAD-CAM was taken to compare the amount of decrowding that had taken place.
Results: The results showed that the mean littles irregularity index values for tubular coaxial and superelastic NiTi were 13.94 ± 3.19 and 12.44 ± 2.57 respectively (p value of 0.74) .There was no significant difference in the Little's irregularity index values between the two archwires .After the first review the mean values were 7.86 ± 4.08 and 5.46 ± 2.92 (p value of 0.33)at the second review the mean values were 4.83 ±1.72 and 4.21 ± 1.98 ( p value of 0.53). However there was a significant difference in the amount of decrowding between the pretreatment and first review and between the first and second review .
Conclusions: There is no difference in the decrowding efficiency between Tubular coaxial and Superelastic NiTi in mandibular anterior crowding .
