HPV and Associated Risk Factors in Adults Asymptomatic
Objectives: Describe the epidemiology of infection, associated risk factors and the persistence of HPV infection in adult patients without oral pathology. Methods: Samples of oral mucosa 103 adult subjects were taken; DNA quality was assessed by amplifying a region of the human β-globin gene with primers GH20 and PC04 HPV and identified by PCR using the universal primers MY09 / MY11. Results: The age group was 18-25 years, with an average of 21.78. HPV prevalence was 6.8%; 71.4% of cases were in females and 28.5% males. Regarding genotypes, HPV-13 was found in 3 patients (2.91%); HPV-6/11 (0.97%), HPV-18 (0.97%) and HPV-45 (0.97%); a sample could not be typed (0.97%). 100% of the HPV-Positive had spontaneous resolution of infection at 6 months. Sexual preference (p = 0.011), frequency of condom use during sex (p = 0.046) and alcohol consumption (p = 0.043) and associated risk factors were determined. Conclusions: A high proportion of HPV-positive patients, were present various risk factors. This determines the importance of dental screening tests to determine HPV and implement strict prevention measures in people who become sexually active, to prevent HPV infection and associated diseases.
