Differences in Color Perception of Various Composite Resins

Objectives: This study compared the shade of different composites after acellerated aging.
Methods: Five composites enamel shade A2 were used: Opallis®, Natural Shade®, Empress direct®, Filtek Z250®, Filtek Z350XT®. Three specimens were fabricated using a silicone matrix obtained by the impression of Vitapan Classical Shade Tab (VCST). Polymerization was conducted at cervical, medium and incisal thirds of specimen for 20 seconds, followed by finishing and polishing with Soflex discs and brush carbide. After, each specimen was measured using a digital caliper respecting the dimensions of VCS. For accelerated aging, specimens were stored in distilled water for 28 days at 37^oC. After each 7 days, the color of specimens were assessed using a spectrophotometer EasyShade® in triplicate. The color difference among composite resins was calculated using the formula ΔE=[. Data were analyzed by repeated measures two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s test (p < 0.05).
Results: Comparative shade among composite resins showed that Filtek Z350XT/Filtek Z250 (Initial-12,60±2,88; 28d-14,33±2,67), Opallis/Filtek Z350 (Initial-12,30±3,83), Natural Shade/Filtek Z250 (13,90±1,68) presented the highest values of ΔE (p < 0.05), with no differences between then (p > 0.05). Composites Filtek Z350/Empress (Initial 2,23±1,97; 28d 2,53±2,19), Opallis/Filtek Z250 (Initial 2,63±0,31; 28d 2,0±0,50), presented the lowest values of ΔE (p < 0.05), with no differences between then (p > 0.05) For all composites investigated, the accelerated aging process did not influenced ΔE values (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: Among all resin composites investigated, only the Filtek Z350/Empress and Opallis/Filtek Z250 did not presented differences in color perception.
