In Vitro Evaluation of the Influence of Sodium Dichloroacetate (DCA) Over the Proliferative Capacity of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cells. In Vitro Study
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the influence of DCA in the proliferative ability of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells. Methods: Cells from squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue (ATCC, CAL 27) were plated at an initial cell density of 1x105 and proliferative capacity of cells (control) was compared to cells cultured with the addition of three different concentrations of DCA (6.25, 12.5 and 25 mM, respectively). The experimental times were 24, 48 and 72 hours, utilizing an automated cell counter (ViCell®) Results: The results showed that DCA negatively influenced squamous cell carcinoma cells, leading to reduced proliferation. The absolute number of cells were statistically significant lower in groups 12.5 and 25 mM (p < 0.05) in the times of 48 and 72 hours, when compared to the control group. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the DCA decreased, in vitro, the proliferative capacity of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma cells.
