Gloss Comparisons of ZNano and Other Universal Composites
Objectives: To study gloss properties of universal composites using different sand paper polishing. Methods: Five universal composites, ZNano (Danville), Beautiful II (Shofu), Estelite Σ Quick (Tokuyama), Filtek Supreme Ultra (3M) and IPS Empress Direct (Ivoclar), all A2 shade, were made into cylindrical blocks with a diameter of 10 mm and thickness of 8 mm, 3 specimens for each composite, followed by curing in ProCure II light oven (2X150w halogen light) for 2 min. They were then placed on a polishing machine of MetaServ 250 Grinder-Polisher, with a load of 2 pounds on top of each specimen. They were polished with SiC sand papers of #320 (particle sizes of 36 µm) for 90 rounds, followed by 300 rounds with #600 and #1200 SiC sand papers (particle sizes of 16 and 6 µm, respectively), sequentially. After each polishing, gloss was measured (ASTM D-523) using a Novo-Curve Gloss Meter. Results: The following table lists the property measurements. The results of each measurement were compared by ANOVA tests (p<0.05).
Conclusions: Conclusion: ZNano and Estelite Σ Quick have similar gloss with #600 and # 200 sand paper polishing, and both have significantly better gloss than other tested universal composites.
