Prospective Clinical Evaluation of CADon™ Posterior All-ceramic Fixed-partial Dentures

Objectives: This study evaluated the clinical performance of posterior 3-unit all-ceramic fixed partial dentures (FPDs) made with Y-TZP frameworks veneered with lithium disilicate glass-ceramic with the CADon™ technique over a 2-year period.
Methods: Twenty-five patients received one CADOn™ 3-unit posterior FPD. Abutment teeth were prepared in a standardized manner. Y-TPZ frameworks (IPS e.max® ZirCAD) were fabricated with CAD/CAM technology and had a minimum connector surface area of 9mm² and a retainer thickness of at least 0.6mm. Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max® Press) was pressed onto the Y-TPZ framework by the manufacturer. FPDs were inserted with Panavia 21 TC cement. Patients were recalled for baseline visit evaluations after final insertion, and for follow-up visits at 6, 12, and 24 months. During each visit, the following parameters were evaluated using modified Ryge clinical criteria: soft tissue health/gingival index, fracture resistance/wear, polish, color match to prescribed shade, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, surface staining, retention, and sensitivity were evaluated. In addition, proximal recurrent caries were assessed as present or non-present. Evaluation scores in each category at different time intervals were statistically compared using ANOVA on ranks. Kaplan-Meier Single group Survival analysis was performed.
Results: Overall survival rate after 2 years was 100%. None of the evaluated clinical parameters variables revealed statistically significant differences or significant changes during the follow-up period. They were rated alpha or bravo at each follow-up visit.
Conclusions: CADOn™ 3-unit posterior FPDs revealed excellent clinical success after 2 years of function.
