Clinical Study on Stability of Surface-treated Implants in Cleft Area
Objectives: Objective: To evaluate implant primary stability in grafted areas of cleft patients, by means of resonance frequency analysis (RFA), in two types of surface-treated implants. Methods: Material and Methods: Twenty unilateral and/or bilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP/BCLP) patients were divided in two groups according to implant type: Neodent (Group N), and Straumann (Group S) (n=10 each). RFA evaluations at mesiodistal and buccolingual directions were made at T0 (implant placement), and T1 (1-4 months after placement). Patients were blind to the treatment. Data from RFA of the groups were submitted to 2-way ANOVA (α = 0.05). Results: Results: No statistically significant differences were found between groups and RFA direction from T0 to T1 (general mean of 57.63 ± 9.08 and 62.18 ± 6.39 ISQ, respectively) (P> 0.05). Conclusions: Conclusion: The implant stability in bone graft areas of cleft patients was statistically similar between two types of surface-treated implants. An increase in stability for both implant-surfaces at 1-2 month period allowed the oral rehabilitation in a period shorter than 120 days.
