Surface Enamel Treated With Fluoride Dentifrice Associated to CPP-ACP Crème

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of CPP-ACP crèmes associated to a fluoride dentifrice on enamel.
Methods: Human enamel blocks (n=52), previously selected through surface microhardness (SMH) analysis, were submitted to daily treatment with dentifrice and a pH- cycling model. The enamel blocks were divided into four groups (N=14): G1: CrestTM Cavity Protection – Procter & Gamble (1.100 ppmF de NaF); G2: CrestTM +Tooth Mousse (TM) - RecaldentTM GC Corporation Tokyo, Japan); G3: CrestTM +Tooth Mousse Plus (TMP) - RecaldentTM 900 ppm as NaF, GC Corporation Tokyo, Japan) and G4: control, saliva. The specimens were soaked in demineralizing solution for 6 hours and remineralized in artificial saliva for 18 hours alternatively for 5 days. The fluoride dentifrice (1:3 proportion (w/w) were applied three times for 60s after the remineralization period. The CPP-ACP crème was applied undiluted for 3 min/day. Demineralized tissue loss was analyzed by microhardness. Data were analyzed by nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney comparisons tests (α = 0.05).
Results: The SMH values observed for the G3 (257±70), G1 (205±70) and G2 (208±84) groups differ from that of G4 group (98±110). The G1xG2, G2xG3 and G1x G3 did not show any difference on the inhibition of demineralization. The percentage change of SMH (%SMH) was not different between treatment groups.
Conclusions: It was concluded that CPP-ACP+F when applied with fluoride dentifrice demonstrated overall greater remineralization ability than only saliva and NaF dentifrice.
