Physical Property Investigation of Two Recently-marketed Resin Composite Restorative Materials
Objectives: To investigate the physical properties of two recently-marketed, resin dental restorative materials (Spectra HV and LV) compared to similar materials from the same manufacturer. Methods: Specimens (n=12) were fabricated using standardized, stainless-steel molds for flexure strength and fracture toughness following manufacturer direction and stored in physiologic phosphate buffered saline solution at 37 °C. Testing was at 24 hours and one week, with modulus determined from the flexural strength stress/strain curve. Mean results were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn’s post hoc analysis (p = 0.05). Results: Results are listed in the table. Conclusions: Both Spectra HV and LV demonstrated similar flexural strength and modulus as well as fracture toughness as other direct resin restorative materials from the same manufacturer. The ceramic-filled material demonstrated significantly less physical properties after 7 days of storage.
