Measurement Reliability of Two Dental Virtual Reality Simulators
Objectives: The OSCE is a reliable evaluation method to estimate the preclinical examination of dental students. The most ideal assessment for dental OSCE is used the Virtual Reality Simulators (VRS) to evaluate. The aim of this study was to compare the measurement reliability of teaching performance between the two dental VR Simulators. Methods: Preoperative and postoperative scanning of ten maxillary central incisors and mandibular first molars resin teeth were done by the 3D TDS scanner (Pou Yuen, Taiwan). The first VRS was used Computerized Dental Simulator CDS-100 (EPED, Taiwan). The others VRS was used DentSim (DenX, Israeli). The margin, surfaces reduction, direction of walls (convergence angle) was examined. The comparison of accuracy and reproducibility between the two VRS were evaluated. Results: The mean measurement difference of DentSim 36 group was 138±26um, CDS 36 group was 147±30 (p>0.05). The mean measurement difference of DentSim 11 group was 122±29um, CDS 11group was 130±26um (p>0.05). Higher mean scores was 85 at CDS 11 group, lower mean scores was 62.65 at CDS 36 group. Conclusions: The VRS with direct feedback and objective evaluation ability may become an important role in the future of dental OSCE. There was no significant difference in the measurement reliability of teaching performance between the two VRS.
