Electrochemical Behavior of Co-Cr Alloy in Hygienic Tablets Solution
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the electrochemical behavior of a cobalt- chromium dental alloy in contact with hygienic tablets in solution suitable for cleaning dentures Methods: A total of 24 discs (12x2mm) of cobalt- chromium were polished following a pre-established protocol, with an exposed area corresponding to 3.64 cm2. The control group (G0) was composed only of distilled water. The first experimental group (G1) received a hygienic tablet at the moment that electrochemical test started, while the second group (G2) received the hygienic tablet 1h after. The electrochemical tests recorded the open circuit potential (OCP) and current density (icorr). Results: Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan test (p<0.05). The highest values of OCP and icorr were recorded for G1 (-26.87±48.48mV; 0.29±0.22mA), which were similar to G2 (-47.37±35.36mV; 0.26±0.10mA), and these values were not similar to control group (-314.87±24.22mV; 0.50±0.17mA). Conclusions: It was observed that the experimental groups containing hygienic tablets presented a lower tendency to corrosion process development than the control group.
