IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL EXPRESSION OF HER-2/NEU IN ORAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA

Objectives: To study the immunohistochemical expression of Her2/neu in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) and find its association with clincopathologic features of OSCC.
Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of 30 subjects with Oral Squamous cell Carcinoma was carried out.Expression of Her-2/Neu was evaluated using immunohistochemical analysis and traditional histological parameters, and the correlation of Her-2/Neu with clinicopathologic featured was determined. The data was subjected to descriptive statistics and chi-square using Spss v.20.
Results: 30 patients included 18 males (60%) and 12 females (40%) aged from 18 to 73 (mean 44.8+12.7.)A statistically significant relationship was found in Her2/Neu expression and histologically verified OSCC cases.
Conclusions: This study showed an increase in Her-2/Neu expression in OSCC patients, so this marker can be used as target antigen for specific immunotherapy against OSCC,that may increase prognostic and therapeutic success.
