Comparative Study for Predicting Mandibular growth increment; by using Prediction equation (MLI) in patients with Skeletal Class II short mandible vs Control group
Objectives: Objective of my presentation is to predict the mandibular growth potential by (prediction equation) mandibular length increment (MLI = 36.20-0.71×AH3-0.97×PH3-0.90×AH41) in skeletal Class II patients and compare it with the control group i.e. skeletal class I patients. Methods: Study was conducted at University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore on 28 patients with mean age 11.03. Patients based on profiles were categorized as having orthognathic profile and retrognathic profile and then based on ANB angle were grouped into Control Group (Skeletal Class I) and Skeletal Class II short mandible Group. Utilizing the (MLI = 36.20-0.71×AH3-0.97×PH3-0.90×AH4) the groups were compared for growth increment. Results: Patients with Skeletal Class II have shown MLI=16.01 while patients with Skletal Class I (Control group) have shown MLI=15.40. Statistically significant difference was found in the growth potential (p-value<0.05) between the control group and patients with skeletal class II short mandible. Conclusions: MLI has been found to be an effective method for the prediction of mandibular growth potential and thus can be effectively utilized for predicting the growth. However studies in future will be needed to compare the MLI prediction with the actual mandibular growth increment when functional appliances are given.
