Post Insertion Complaints Of Complete Dentures Fabricated by Final Year BDS Students.
Objectives: The objective of present study was to evaluate the frequency of common post insertion complaints in edentulous patients reported after insertion of complete denture fabricated by final year dental students Methods: Study was conducted in Dental Section, Allied Hospital Faisalabad. It was a retrospective study on dentures fabricated by final year students of two sessions in 2013 and 2014. Denture fabricated under supervision of faculty members of department of prosthodontics , without the help of dental technician. Study included 70 patients, 36 were females and 34 were males with age range 40 to 70 years.
Exclusion Criteria Diabetes Xerostomia Highly resorbed ridges Results: Among 70 patients,17(24.28%) were fully satisfied with their dentures, 11(15.74%) were lost as they did not come for follow up. Unsatisfied patients 42 patients( 60%) were further categorized as:12 patients complaint of loose dentures (17.14%), on evaluation their dentures were non retentive.,13 patients came with pain and soreness due to denture wearing (18.57%), 7 patients came with disturbance on occluding their teeth (10%), 2 patients argued of increase incisor show (2.8%), 8 patients did not respond well to dentures psychologically in spite of good retention and stability of dentures(11.42%). Conclusions: Concluding that most likely reasons of ill fitting dentures were lack of peripheral seal,sharp edges,non retentive impression surfaces. It is recomendded that most important steps of fabrication that are impression taking and establishing occlsion should be rectified properly.
