The effect on of periodental non-surgical treatment on glycometabolism

Objective: To observe the effect of periodental non-surgical treatment on periodontal condition, glycometabolism and the level of serum TNF-αin type 2 diabetes mellitus with chronic periodontitis(DMCP)

Method: 0 cases of type 2 diabetes patients with chronic periodontitis and 30 cases of chronic periodontitis(CP) patients without systemic disease were performed by periodental non-surgical treatment. The clinical periodontal indexes including probing depth(PD), attachment loss(AL), bleeding on probing(BOP) of every patient were recorded at pre-treatment, and after 1-month, 3-month and 6-month treatment, and fasting blood glucose(FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc) and serum tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α) were measured at the same time.

Result:  The level of PD、BOP and serum TNF-αwas significantly reduced in both DMCP group and CP group after 1-month, 3-month and 6-month treatment (P<0.05), and CP group was more significantly reduced compared with DMCP group. The level of AL was significantly reduced after 3-month treatment(P<0.05), but there was no statistical diference in reducing levels between the two groups. The FBG、HbAlc levels of  DMCP were significantly reduced after 3-month and 6-month treatment(P<0.05)

Conclusion: Periodental non-surgical treatment can improve the periodontal condition and profit to the blood sugar level control of the patients.
