Zirconia surface modification by femtosecond laser improving adhesion

Objective: We used femtosecond laser to microfabricate adhesive surface of zirconia dental prosthesis. Then, we examined the improvement of adhesive strength.

Method: Zirconia material is polished with waterproof silicon carbide abrasive paper(# 500, # 800, # 1200, # 1500) perpendicular to the axial direction of the pin gauge 5mm.Diameter. Then with lpping film (MARUTO INSTRUMENT CO., LTD.  30, 12, 9, 3 μm). Next using 9μ JPulse energy 9μJ, made the groove 51μm depth, width of 53μm.Grooves were crossed with two right angles perpendicular to the each grooves. Adherend is used for surface transferred from the Crearfil DC Core Auto-mix ONE Clearfil DC Core Automix, the mirror surface of the glass slide, according to the manufacturer's instructions in Crearfil SA Cement Auto-mix cement Clearfil SA Automix regulate the area and thickness of a hole of 4mm diameter of 50μm thick masking tape.Adhesive test using the DCS-5000, Cross Head Speed 1mm/min, was under the 5KN load cell.

Result: Adhesive strength was 36.5MPa and the adhesive surface with a groove with the adhesive surface 17.0MPa 30.8 MPa.parallel grooves, obtained a 82% improvement in adhesion strength, respectively, 115% by placing a groove in a surface lubricant

Conclusion: Femtosecond laser improved adhesive strength to zirconia dental prosthesis.
