Methods: Sixty non-carious, extracted human third molars were cut horizontally to obtain 60 dentinal surfaces. The specimens were divided in half and treated as dry dentin (N=30) and moist dentin (N=30). Three self-adhesive resin cements: RelyX U100(RU), Maxcem(MC), Clearfil SA luting(CL) were used as luting agent in each group. Therefore, the experimental groups were 1). RU + Dry 2). RU + Moist 3). MC + Dry 4). MC + Moist 5). CL + Dry 6). CL + Moist. (N=10) The cylindrical shape (3 mm in diameter, 10 mm in height) of pre-cured resin composites (Primise:A2, KERR) were fabricated. A single side masking tape with 2 mm diameter hole was applied to the centre of dentin surface. The resin composite rod was luted to prepared dentin surface in each group, then light cured for 40 s. The bonded specimens were then stored in distilled water at 37oC for 24 h. Shear bond strength was evaluated using universal testing machine (SHIMADZU, EZ-S) at cross head speed 0.5 mm/min. The data were collected and statically analyzed using T-test and one way ANOVA at significance level of 0.05.
Results: The mean shear bond strengths of each self-adhesive resin cements luted on dry and moist dentin were not significantly different (p>0.05). Among 3 self adhesive resin cements, shear bond strengths of RelyX U100 and Maxcem were not significantly different (p>0.05) but they were significantly higher than Clearfil SA luting in both dentin conditions.
Conclusions: There was no significant difference in shear bond strength on dentin surface preparation of self adhesive resin cement.
